Diva Cup, The Keeper, Mooncup, Instead, Sea Sponges, Luna Pads, Glad Rags…. I am sure there are many more out there. Reusable menstrual products, how many have you tried?
.

I really think the reason why more people don’t use reusable products is because they aren’t in every grocery and convenience store, so most people don’t even know they are out there. Also, I think some people are downright intimidated by them. I know the cups intimidated me at first… I was thinking that it must be a joke, how could I get that big cup to fit inside of me, comfortably?!
.
Perhaps a 3rd deterrent is the thought of having to touch yourself and get messy. We need to get over the touching ourselves part of it all. Come on ladies, take a hand mirror and see what’s down there, don’t be afraid of it. I can understand not wanting to get dirty. I mean, you don’t want to be in the mall bathroom stall with your hands all bloody, that would be a lovely sight (which could take me onto a tangent  about having sinks in every stall-how nice would that be?).  High school girls have to deal with enough issues, blood soaked hands in the bathroom don’t need to be one of them.
.
Good news is, you don’t have to get too messy, I already know that much from my experience. But you do need to know a few tips about using these products, like how to get them in you comfortably and how to use them when you aren’t in the comfort of your own home.
.

I have only tried a few different kinds of menstrual cups and cloth pads,  but I want to have a chapter devoted to reusable menstrual products in my book, so I need some more experience under my belt.  I am going to try a new menstrual product for my next few cycles, so I can accurately describe how it worked for me.
.
I realize that these products are different for everyone. Some love the menstrual cups, some love the sea sponges, while others despise them all…to each her own. At least I will be able to report what they look and feel like according to my own experience. I think shedding a light on the products will help get awareness out no matter what.
.
I don’t know about every single product out there, so if you have any ideas about products I should try, please let me know. Also, if you are a shop owner and have a product you could donate, I would be so appreciative, since I think this could become quite costly.
.
I will make sure to try all the products in public restrooms and privately, so I can get the full experience.  I will take pictures and perhaps even some video (of the product itself, not me using it!).
.
Wish me luck, I will be starting my period around the full moon. Now I have to decide what product I will be using first!

I used the diva cup back in the day when I was still having cycles. Personally, I found it to be so efficient at containing the flow I rarely had to empty it in a public restroom. They recommend that you just use toilet paper to wipe it clean and reinsert. I would recommend if you had a heavy flow that you tuck some wet wipes in your purse if there is no sink in the stall (and I agree, why don’t they put one in every stall?).
