Why should nap time stop when we are kids? I think older children and adults are just as in need of a nap as young kids are. How many of you have looked at the clock around 3pm, wondering how you are going to make it through the rest of the day?

.

If we were given 15-30 minutes to rest after lunch, I wonder how much more productive we would be? Sometimes I really resist resting because I need to get so much done. But when I actually take the time to rest, I am usually even more productive. My mind works faster and I seem to be more motivated.

.

Midday rests are known to reduce stress levels and improve health. A 6 year Greek study found those who took a 30 minute nap at least 3 times a week had a 37% lower risk of heart related death. Wow, taking a nap could save your life!

.

Both Greece and Spain observe a midday rest and take it fairly seriously. However, here in the US we look at naps as more of a luxury even though we say we are striving to be so heath conscious. What would your boss say if you said you were taking a 30 min break after lunch to rest? What would your family say? Chances are they would think you were lazy, not healthy!

.

I dare you to give it a try for a week. Take a 15-30 minute rest after lunch and either sit and rest or actually take a nap. How different will you feel? Will your body thank you by feeling refreshed and alert? Will you feel better able to take on the day? Try it and find out!
